Club K9 Hydrotherapy Testimonials

"We have a 5 year old pedigree boxer, Emma who in the last 8 months has undergone 2 major spinal operations with Richard Jerram at the Veterinary Specialist Group. As part of her recovery plan Richard suggested that we try Canine Hydrotherapy at Club K9 in New Lynn. They have an 8 metre by 4 metre heated pool and the principals Monique and Carolyn are qualified in animal management and training.

We commenced hydrotherapy some 2 months ago and this has proven to be an excellent low impact form of rehabilitation for Emma and is clearly benefiting her recovery by building up her muscles and providing cardiovascular exercise. Both Carolyn and Monique are total professionals, extremely caring and very experienced and are a pleasure to work with. Emma now visits Club K9 twice a week and clearly looks forward to the experience."

"Our beloved dog Bess has recently had to be operated on for cruciate ligament damage. Post operation she was confined to indoors for the first month and was not a happy dog. A colleague suggested that I take her to Club K9 for Hydrotherapy. After checking with our vet we called down and were greeted by Monique and Carolyn.

Carolyn took Bess into the pool, at first she was a little apprehensive as she wasn't quite sure what was going on but Carolyn talked to her and had her swimming (with a life jacket on). Now she really looks forward to her 'swimming' Carolyn massages the leg and it takes her all her time to keep her still as Bess is keen to get back to the swimming. Bess's leg seems to be healing well and she is our happy dog again.

We have really appreciated that this service is available and would recommend to anyone who either has a dog with a problem or just a dog who would like to go swimming."

"My dog Shilo is a 5 year old Rotwellier / Labrador cross who has recently undergone crucial ligament surgery. She has always been a very active dog who loves nothing more than being the best fielder in my sons cricket team. Trying to keep her quiet and on low key activities while her surgery heals has been a bit of a struggle.

Having ClubK9 to bring her to has been fabulous as the swimming provides exercise and fun without putting any pressure on her new ligament! As soon as she hears me pick up my car keys it is a race to the door to ensure she is not left behind. She cant wait to get into the warm water of the pool and chase her favourite football from the toy basket. The hardest thing is getting her to rest in between swimming rounds.

Monique and Carolyn offer a wonderful service and I thoroughly recommend it for any 'furry person' wanting exercise and fun all rolled into one!"

"Club K9 has helped our dog Chester’s arthritis immensely. He used to be on special medication from the vet, but now with the help from Club K9 and their hydrotherapy treatments, he is now off the vet medication and able to go up and down stairs with no problems. He is also able to walk a lot further than he used to and loves his aqua therapy.

Chester is 14 years old.

We recommend Club K9 to all our friends and acquaintances with dogs."

"'The dogs have swum - a natural activity - since 4 months old. They took to the pool immediately and their pleasure and enthusiasm are a joy to witness. Afterwards, they are mellow for the rest of the day."

"A while back we brought our dog to have a fun swim and play with you guys which all of us thoroughly enjoyed. She took a little while to get used to it but was soon pretty confident chasing toys and leaping into the water. I took a video of her when we took her to the beach on a long weekend and thought you might like to see her doing a bomb in the water! All her swimming skills she learnt with the help of you guys and she has an incredible love of playing in the water now!

Anyway, wanted to let you know how grateful we are for your wonderful facility giving our dog confidence in the water and we will be bringing her back to play when we can. "

Kindest Regards,
Caroline, Jeremy and Gemma

Our 15 year old dog, Dini, has been enjoying swimming sessions at Club K9 for more than a year now. Dini has a lot of stiffness in her back and legs from osteoarthritis and our vet suggested hydrotherapy sessions would be helpful in keeping her joints mobile and alleviate some of her pain. Dini loves her weekly session and it is wonderful to see her legs and back moving freely, without pain while she enjoys the feeling of weightlessness and the warm water on her joints.

She starts to get excited when she gets to the roundabout because she knows where she is going and has always been comfortable and confident in the water with the assistance of Carolyn's support and care. This was especially important when Dini suffered a mild stroke a few months back and was having trouble with her balance. But the swim sessions seemed to provide relief for this condition too. With the water providing support, she seemed to recover more quickly and now has very few side effects to indicate she ever had the stroke.

Dini loves an audience when she is swimming and Monique always stops by the pool side to let Dini know she is a star and to give her encouragement. At the end of the swim, Dini obviously feels some respite from her arthritic pain, because she enjoys a game of towel-tug and acts like a big puppy while we try to dry her off. The weekly swim adds variety to her exercise routine which keeps her mind bright and active too.

Because the water takes her weight, there is no impact on her joints and she can easily manage a 25 minute swim which is great for a dog of her advanced years. And even at the ripe old age of 15, Dini still manages a 20 minute walk everyday which we are pretty sure is only because of her weekly hydrotherapy session at Club K9.
